Students made a path through Ile Ife Park in the Village of Arts and Humanities in North Philadelphia.
We live in societies where planned obsolescence is a part of our culture, but we are facing enormous challenges in terms of resources. We have huge advancements in terms of design and production technology, how do we ensure that we train designers who can think around these challenges? Students installed these pavers in the Ile Ife Park at the Village to form a path through the village. In addition they helped to renovate and clean up the larger park which was in need of refurbishment.
I see the extension of this project into the Village of arts and Humanities community and the grace with which the students embraced what they were doing as major “thought plus” moments for each student a moment of opportunity that changes the game and raises the stakes.
